East Pointe and Westwood held their Veterans Day assemblies today and WOW what an awesome performance from the students!! Thank you to our teachers who put so much into honoring our Veterans and working with our students. It was truly an amazing experience. Thank you to our Veterans for their service!

The Greenwood Education Foundation awards: GHS science teacher, Destiny Rogers, received funding from the Greenwood Education Foundation for a computer and programs for the GHS Robotics Team. Medical Science teacher, Lauren Sexton, and students received funds to purchase a new Ultrasound/Electrical Stimulation Therapeutic Modality Unit. for the medical science classes. GHS teacher, Rachel Patton, was granted $500.00 to purchase books for her dyslexia class. GHS Marketing teacher, Leslie Clements received a grant from the Greenwood Education Foundation to purchase a tee shirt heat press for the Bulldog Trading Company, school store. GHS biology teacher, Mark Travis and students show off the new deep freezer which will be used to store RNA molecules that help convert the information contained in DNA. The freezer was requested by Travis through a Greenwood Education Grant.

The Greenwood Education Foundation recently awarded over $28,000.00 in grants to Greenwood teachers to supplement and enhance their classroom curriculum. The Foundation would like to say Thank You to those who have given gifts and donations to provide funding for these grants. Tonya Cook-Davila, received almost $1500.00 to create a Sensory Room at East Hills Middle School. Taylor Gilbreth received a GEF Grant to take his students to visit The Outsiders House Museum. Greenwood High School math teacher, Jessica Billets, received $1000.00 to purchase new calculators for her classes. Construction Tech Instructor, Ben Schmalz, received a $1700.00 GEF grant to build a trailer for both the TSA competition and the FFA Auction. Greenwood Junior High Teacher, Rick Lawson, received a Greenwood Education Foundation Grant to create a Bulldog Fishing 101 Class/Team.

Shawn English and Kristy Driscoll Teena Riggs and Sherry Cleavenger Teachers of the English Department at East Hills Middle School, received a GEF Grant to purchase 100 copies of I Am Malala. Greenwood Junior High media specialist, Morgan Staton, received $1800.00 from the Damon and Anna Beach Endowment to purchase library iPads. The Beach Endowment is to be used to purchase books, periodicals, and equipment for the Greenwood Junior High Library. Mr. Beach, a former GHS student, was a long-time book salesman and wanted to leave a legacy that would continue his love of books. Staton is pictured with junior high English teacher, Kara Copher, who will be incorporating the iPads into her curriculum. GHS Musical Theatre Director, Tim Peerbolte, received a Greenwood Education Foundation Grant to purchase a video server for the Performing Arts Center that can be used for the upcoming high school production of ELF.

More grants awarded by the Greenwood Education Foundation: East Pointe teacher, Jill McMahan, received a $300.00 GEF grant for magnets and toy cars to be able to teach a science unit on Forces and Interactions. Westwood Elementary teacher, Emily Moschner, and her students exhibit their excitement of receiving a GEF Teacher Grant to purchase 16 sets of Boogie Boards writing tablets. Ethan Rathbun and Leslie Watts received GEF funds to purchase a green screen for their video production class at East Pointe. Westwood Second Grade Teachers received a GEF Teacher Grant to purchase classroom sets of books - Very First Americans, Cowboys and Cowgirls, Pecos Bill, and A New Coat for Anna -that can be shared between each of the second-grade classes.

Continuing with the awards from the Greenwood Education Foundation. Awarded: Lauren Hearron, East Pointe teacher, received a $400.00 Greenwood Education Grant for the Life Science Unit on the Life Cycle of Plants and Animals. Melissa Eckart and Hilary Huneycutt received $634.00 to start a Robotics Team at Westwood. The junior high school robotics team is back on track with new equipment that was funded with a $2000.00 Greenwood Education Foundation Grant. Robotics Team Coach, Jonnie Iglesias gratefully accepts the grant to purchase new resources for the team. East Pointe Counselor, Lauren Kennedy, received $1000.00 for the purchase of A Positive Behavior Intervention Curriculum for East Pointe teachers and students. Leigh Ellon Leonard received a GEF grant so that Westwood choral students could have some new musical instruments for their classroom. Jacy Mask, Westwood Elementary teacher received a GEF grant for a GLOW DAY curriculum unit. Thank You to those who have given gifts and donations to provide funding for these grants.👏🏻

Join us for a Veterans' Day Assembly on Friday, November 10th, at H.B. Stewart Bulldog Arena from 10:30-11:30 We are honored to have Fred Dufault, retired Army Helicopter Pilot, as our Guest Speaker. This year, we'll be extending a Special Recognition to all those who served during the Vietnam Era. The River Valley Quilts of Valor Foundation will be making a special presentation. Additionally, the GHS Jr. Air Force ROTC will conduct an MIA Remembrance Table Presentation, honoring those who are missing in action. To conclude this meaningful day, lunch will be provided for Veterans and guest in the Student Union immediately following the Assembly.
