The Greenwood Board of Education named Mr. Devin West the Director of Bands for the Greenwood Schools for the 2024-25 school year.
Welcome to Greenwood West family!
Devin West holds a Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education from Henderson State
University, a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Arkansas in
Monticello, and an Education Specialist Degree from Arkansas State University in
Jonesboro.
Mr. West started his career in Gurdon Arkansas where the band program won a State
Championship at the State Marching Band Contest and multiple sweepstakes awards
for the concert bands. From there, Mr. West would go on to Pottsville High School. The
Pottsville High School Band has consistently medaled at the State Marching Band
Contest, earned a bronze medal at the Bands of America Regional in Memphis
Tennessee, earned the State Sweepstakes Award for Arkansas, and was the Reserve
Honor Ensemble for the AAAA Classification at State Concert Contest.
Mr. West and his wife, Kelsey, are very excited to become a part of the community in
Greenwood. They have two boys, Lucas and Jameson.

After an incredible 34-year teaching career, with 21 of those years dedicated to the Greenwood School District, Joel Sillavan, GHS band director has announced his retirement.

The Greenwood School District is pleased to announce the appointment of James Halitzka as the new Head Girls' Basketball Coach for Greenwood High School. Coach Halitzka brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the Lady Bulldogs program. During his tenure at Bergman High School, Coach Halitzka led the girls' basketball team to two 3A State Championships, in 2022 and 2024. He boasts an impressive overall record of 430 career wins over 15 seasons, with a remarkable 187-22 record in the past five years. During this time, the Bergman varsity girls' basketball team held a 56-game winning streak. Coach Halitzka was also selected as a coach in this year's AHSCA All-Star Game for the third time in his career. Coach Halitzka and his wife, Tammera, have a daughter, Jacey, who will be a Greenwood High School sophomore next year. Please help us in welcoming Coach Halitzka to the Bulldog family!

Due to the latest weather forecast, we have chosen to move the graduation ceremony indoors to ensure everyone's comfort and safety. We will celebrate our graduates’ achievements in H.B. Stewart Arena. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for our attendees to ensure we get a group picture of the Class of 2024 before the arena fills up.
H.B. Stewart Arena has a seating capacity of 2,200, not including graduates, staff, and additional seating that will be placed on the gym floor. The 2024 graduation class has 276 students, which allows up to 8 seats per graduate. Overflow seating will be offered in our Performing Arts Center where we will offer a livestream of the event. We will also share links to a livestream of the ceremony where it can be watched from home by those who do not want to get out if it is storming.

Greenwood School District families,
Our district and building administrators are actively monitoring the threat of severe thunderstorms that could enter our area in the next couple hours. Our primary concern will always be the safety of our students and staff. As the forecast unfolds, we may make the decision to house students in the storm shelters as a precautionary measure, but will communicate through School Status and our district and building social media pages if such a decision is made. The 2024 Senior Class Speaker is Taryn Presson, and the Commencement Speaker is 1986 GHS Alum, Brigadier General Charles W. "Wes" Nichols.
